Tema 1 - New school and new friends

Grammar focus: revision of present simple tense

Vocabulary: school routine, talking about holidays

Pronuntiation: Prensent tense -s

Oral comprehension and production: discussing in pairs, producing ideas about school timetable

Reading: understanding schedules

Writing: producing scheduled timetables



Exercises:

1) Listen and read the dialogue below:



Paul: Hi, I'm Paul

Bob: Hello, my name is Bob

Paul: Where are you from, Bob?

Bob: I'm from London. But my dad's working here now. What about you?

Paul: I live here, I live in Mandela Road

Bob: Mandela road? I'm in Bank Street, that is not far.

Paul: Great. See you, Bob

Bob: See you.



Then, practice this conversation with a partner. The teacher may change certain text key words (names, street, mum instead of dad...) and tell the students to reproduce the dialogue with these changes, in order to encourage comprehension of structural patterns.



2) Listen to a dialogue about school timetable (subjects and lunch's time and place) between 2 students. The pupils must fill in the gaps of a provided timetable with the information from the dialogue. The timetable's gaps may change according to internal differences among students' level.



3) Listen to a dialogue between 2 students talking about their peers: they ask for their peers' names to each other, providing phisical description, clothes' description and names. The students are given a picture where 4 or 5 persons are drawn, and they must link them to their name according to the info provided by the dialogue.



4) Read the following letter and answer to this questions.



Dear Tessa,

I'm back and the weather's terrible, what's the weather like in London? It was great to meet you in Lanzarote. I hope we can meet in London or Northampton soon. You must come and visit me. Here's a photo of my house. Can you send me a picture of your house? I also need your telephone number. Lanzarote was wonderful. I got a letter from Jorge, he sent his love¡

We go back to school on September 5th. I've got my timetable for this term. We've got maths everyday¡ I hate maths. And we've got double science on Friday afternoon¡ And Ms. Martin's our science teacher. She doesn't like me and I hate her¡ My favourite subject is English. I'm brilliant at it¡ Ms. Paul's our teacher this year. She is great. Also we've got lots of homework this term - two hours a night¡ I won't have time to write to Jorge¡
